
The starting point: theoretical loss
Many programs rate the customer through theoretical loss, not through the actual result of a single session.
Theoretical loss = average bet × decisions per hour × hours played × house edge
Example: an average bet of €100, 60 decisions per hour, 10 hours and a 0.50% edge produce a theoretical loss of €300. If the program reinvests 20% of that value, the theoretical benefit budget is about €60. The actual rating, however, may use speeds, edges and average bets different from those estimated by the player.
Nominal value and net monetary value
A room listed at €500 is not necessarily worth €500 to the player. The correct value is what the player would actually have spent on an equivalent alternative, after taxes, restrictions, compulsory dates and additional costs.

Loss rebate
A loss rebate returns a percentage of a loss as defined by the program. The advertised percentage is not enough: the calculation base, period, minimum threshold, permitted games, any caps and the form of reimbursement must all be known.
- Trip loss: the net loss for the entire trip or cycle.
- Session loss: the loss relating to a single session or day.
- Theoretical loss rebate: a benefit linked to the theoretical rating rather than the actual loss.
- Cash, credit or free play: forms of payment with different economic values.
The reimbursement reduces the loss in covered cases, but it may also change the optimal strategy and the distribution of risk. It must not be treated as a guaranteed percentage without reading all the conditions.
Promotional chips and free play
Promotional chips are not all the same. Some are removed after one bet, while others remain in play after a win; some return only the profit, while others produce negotiable chips. Expected value depends on the specific rules and the game selected.

- Free bet: the promotional stake may be removed while only the winnings are paid.

Hotels, travel and hospitality
Rooms, suites, meals, transport and flight reimbursement have value only to the extent that they replace costs the player would actually have incurred. A trip made solely to obtain a benefit may generate more costs and expected loss than the value received.

Total EV = game EV + net monetary value of benefits − travel costs, fees and additional expenses
For a negative-expectation player, benefits make the overall package positive only when their net value exceeds the expected loss and all costs. For an advantage player who is already positive, comps increase EV but do not replace verification of the main game.
Common mistakes
- valuing hotels and meals at the listed price;
- ignoring the volume required to obtain the benefit;
- confusing free play, promotional chips and withdrawable cash;
- applying the loss-rebate percentage to ineligible losses;
- failing to consider taxes, tips, travel and fees;
- increasing negative-expectation play to chase status or a reward;
- counting the same benefit twice in the EV calculation;
- ignoring caps, expiry dates and the risk that the benefit may be changed or denied.
